Protect NeighborWorks America

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) began examining the work of NeighborWorks America and dismantling its board of directors last week. DOGE’s precise goals aren’t clear yet. NeighborWorks has been a pillar of the community development field for decades, providing training, resources, and support that benefit organizations and communities.

TAKE ACTION: Contact your elected officials – particularly Republicans. Tell your governors, senators, representatives, and Trump administration contacts that DOGE should cease their activities at NeighborWorks America and to not dissolve any other federally independent organizations.  If you have an example of how NeighborWorks has benefitted your organization and your community, make sure to mention that.

Support HOME Funding

Congress is currently considering how much funding to include in the FY 2026 budget for the HOME Program, which provides critical funding to community-based development organizations. The Alliance advocates for HOME funding and favorable regulations through the HOME Coalition.

TAKE ACTION: Sign this letter on behalf of your organization. Urge Congress to appropriate at least $1.5 billion for the HOME program for Fiscal Year 2026. Ask other organizations to sign on too!

Protect AmeriCorps

On April 16, DOGE officials visited the AmeriCorps agency in Washington and performed an abrupt “demobilization” of AmeriCorps NCCC and FEMA Corps members. In addition, the vast majority of AmeriCorps agency staff were put on administrative leave with pay, effective immediately. As of April 17, there have not been reports of impacts to AmeriCorps programs beyond NCCC/FEMA Corps. However, DOGE is still at the AmeriCorps agency, and there is concern that this is a path to effectively dismantle AmeriCorps and jeopardize critical programs that serve local communities.

TAKE ACTION: Contact your elected officials. Voices for National Service has created a script and instructions for you to call your elected officials and ask them to stand for service. Please make these calls as soon as possible — time is of the essence. After you’ve called your representatives, please send a letter to your lawmakers using this form. Thank you for standing with Voices and AmeriCorps members.
